You never said 'I am leaving',
You never said 'goodbye'.

You were gone before I knew it,
and only God knows why.

A million times I need you,
A million times I cried.

If love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.

In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.

In my heart a place you hold,
No one could ever fill.

It broke my heart to lose you,
But you didn't go alone,

A part of me went with you,
The day God took you home.

Chris was born on the 21st of August 1977. Being 3 months premature he was a big surprise for Mum and Dad, but this blessing was received twice over when he was followed 10 mins later by his identical twin brother, Jason.

After fighting to survive, and as if knowing his life would be cut short, Chris gave it everything he had. He never gave up and never accepted the fact that he could not do something.

At the age of 6, Chris and Jason took up karate. They continued this sport for many years, competing in many competitions all over Australia and even once overseas.
After leaving school, Chris took up an apprenticeship as a welder and became highly proficient and well regarded in his trade.

One of the things that Chris wanted to do, for as long as any of us can remember, was join the army. This dream looked as though it would be fulfilled in the beginning of 2000. Unfortunately, due to illness, he was only able to stay in the army for 5 weeks.

After leaving the army and regaining his health, Chris decided to continue with his trade as a welder. He started working with our cousin and was planning on setting up his own business. Early this year he received a call informing him that he was now eligible to re-join the army. Chris' dream was once again a reality and he started training to get fit. He had a recruitment appointment on the 20th of March.

On the 27th of February he was rushed to hospital with acute appendicitis and had an operation that night.

The morning of 1st of March he was discharged from hospital

On the day of his discharge, Chris received a call to help a friend in trouble, however when Chris responded to this call he found himself in a situation which set in motion the tragic chain of events which lead to his death. After 2 days on life support, he died on the 3rd of March.

We have not found out what really happened that night, I don’t think we ever will, but it will take a long time for us to accept that he is really gone, that we won't hear his voice or his laugh again.

Oh the night Chris was taken to hospital, his girlfriend shared the news with us that they were having a baby.

Faith Christianna was born on the 21st of September 02. She looks like her dad and I know that he will live on in her and in our hearts.

He had everything to live for – His baby, his family, his friends and the Army.

When I look back at all the stupid things we used to do together, at the time they all seemed unimportant, but now I will cherish those memories for the rest of my life.

All his family are very proud of him and his achievements in his short life.
